A critical challenge for agriculture in cold climate regions is to extend the growing season, possibly even to allow for year round food production. Greenhouses are integral to cold climate growing but current greenhouse technology is not able to deliver economically viable returns on investment through the colder months. Innovation in the field of cold climate greenhouses has the potential to make a significant impact on one of the largest economic and social issues facing northern communities.
Please join us March 24th and 25th, 2015 at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Center in Whitehorse for a series of keynote talks and panel discussions on the latest design, technology and practical innovations. The workshop promises to be engaging for anybody interested in food security or growing, from home gardeners to the northern farmer. Topics include:
- Northern Greenhouse structures and design
- Optimizing energy and resource budgets through lighting and insulation
- Innovative growing techniques and processes
- Computers in the garden – intelligent growing systems
- Commercialization strategies
